"Northwest Indiana's Premier Option for the Serious Equestrian Athlete"
Sara takes great pride in her lessons and spends a lot of time reading and researching and learning from other professionals about how to keep her students achieving their goals all the time. Sara finds extreme importance in a strong base of flatwork as a foundation for jumping and insists that her students spend quite a bit of their "own their own time" as well as their lesson time
working on improving their horse's flatwork. Ability to shorten and lengthen the stride, move sideways (in addition to forward) away from the leg, response to half halts, opposite hand to leg contact, lateral work, etc, are important parts of a jumping horse's foundation as they provide for a greater ability to adjust to the rigors of advanced coursework, whether it be in the hunter or jumper rings.
Safety has and will always be Sara's primary concern, whether it be at home in the barn, in the ring, or at a show ad insists that each student spend time learning not only appropriate attire for riding (and it is required that every student have an appropriately fitted helmet with hair secured back in an elastic tie to prevent impairment of vision, and appropriately heeled boots designed for english riding that fit properly in an english stirrup without the risk of becoming lodged in the
instance of a fall) but also learning the appropriate ways to handle horse, whether it be leading him to the grooming area, stalls, turnouts, or ring. Students practice safe ways to dismount in different circumstances, as well as proper and safe ways to groom and handle horses in the barn so that they are always as safe as they can be. It is extremely important to Sara that students learn all aspects of horse care so that they can grow into independent horse caregivers!
** Tack and riding helmets can be initially provided, but it is reccommended that you purchase these things for your child as soon as possible in order to insure the best possible individual fit.**
For those without their own horse to use, Teneriffe does provide a limited number of school horses for use at any given time. These wonderful, dependable animals provide students with a sense of security and provide the ability to concentrate on learning themselves without having to worry about whether a green or untrained horse will behave or respond properly to the aids. This can also provide newer students with a chance to learn how to provide horse care before deciding to venture out on their own by purchasing their own mount.
There are also horses available to students for in-barn leases in order to provide a student with a sense of what it is like to own and care for a horse on their own without the initial cost of the purchase itself. This can be a wonderful thing for the parents too- it allows everyone to see how dedicated the young ones truly are to this endeavor!
The "problem" horses in training with Sara are provided with a sense of stability and security that gives them confidence to continue with their owners after finishing the program. Sara has taken on horses with moderate to severe behavioral problems and successfully redirected their energy in a positive way, turning a dangerous behavior into something an owner, previously frightened by a horse who may be acting out, can deal with on their own. These horses are taken on an a limited basis, and Sara should be contacted directly regarding current availability.
Sometimes a horse who is not performing to their potential may have just been given a wrong previous direction. With a little help, sometimes we can find them a better avenue for their abilities, which provides a much happier experience for a horse and his owner. Is your horse too hot and takes too much prep to get into the hunter and equitation rings without exhausting everyone involved but has proper flatwork and training to get him where he needs to go? Perhaps he should try the jumpers! Teneriffe Enterprises can help you to find what avenue works best for both you and your horse.
